Vote freely: May the election day in Nikšić be peaceful

We remind the people of Nikšić of their right to vote according to their convictions. No one has the right to influence the choice of citizens by illegal means whether they will go to the polls and when they will vote. Power is in the hands of the citizens, they are alone behind the voting screen and there are free to support whoever they want

The Center for Democratic Transition (CDT) calls on all competent bodies and actors in the local elections in Niksic to put aside political differences tomorrow and to dedicate themselves and support the legal and safe conduct of the election process. The essence of the election process must be the right of citizens to free political choice, which can be realized only on a legal, fair and peaceful election day.

We remind the people of Nikšić of their right to vote according to their convictions. No one has the right to influence the choice of citizens by illegal means whether they will go to the polls and when they will vote. Power is in the hands of the citizens, they are alone behind the voting screen and there are free to support whoever they want.

We also invite all citizens, especially those in hospital treatment or in self-isolation, who would possibly be prevented from exercising their right to vote, to immediately report it to the Municipal Election Commission (MEC) or the CDT. The right to vote must be energetically protected, and we hope that no one will dare to disturb the essence of the election process.

The MEC, polling stations, the prosecutor’s office, the police and all participants in the process are obliged to take into account the interests and security of citizens, and not only the interests of political entities. There are no democratic elections if voters do not feel safe, so the police are responsible for making everyone really feel that way.

We call on the electoral lists, the media and all other actors in the process to refrain from publishing unverified and unreliable information and / or election results in order to avoid raising tensions in the city.

Anyone who adheres to democratic values and rules will also refrain from celebrations that can in any way disrupt the electoral atmosphere or provoke dissidents.

Once again, we call on all actors in the election process to correct the current bad practice and to fully respect epidemiological protection measures during the election day. We hope that for them, the health of citizens and their lives are more important than the percentage of votes won or the need to celebrate electoral success.

Niksic women and men, vote freely!
