Instagram has been given a new tag aimed at preventing the spread of false information via this social network.

The “false information” label will be used for posts that are exposed and marked as fake, and Facebook employees will be in charge of fact-checking for this process.

The new tag will slowly spread on the social network over the next month, and will appear on “stories”, as well as on posts that appear on the main news feed of Instagram. Social network users will still be able to see the original post, but will need to click on the “See Post” option.

Instagram will warn users who try to share a post previously marked as fake.

This option is by far the most aggressive way to combat the spread of viral misinformation.
