Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Sijarto said that the Chinese company Huawei will participate in the construction of the 5G network in Hungary.
Sijarto said in Shanghai that Huawei would cooperate with the British Vodafone and the German Deutsche Telekom on that project. He added that Hungary does not differentiate between companies based on their country of origin as long as they respect Hungarian laws and regulations.
The United States tried to persuade the allies to avoid Huawei, believing that the choice of this company represents a security risk. That was a key issue at a meeting between Sijart and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in February in Budapest.
Sijarto said in April that the strategic and economic interest of Hungary is good cooperation with Huawei, which has one of the largest European centers in Hungary.
