Frankfurt is left without a car fair

It is not yet known who will host the largest German car fair (IAA) in 2021, but it is certain that after almost 70 years it will no longer be – Frankfurt.

The city, which has hosted Hanover since 1951, was shortlisted by a decision of the German Automobile Industry Association (VDA), and the remaining candidates are Berlin, Hamburg and Munich, Hina reports.

“VDA leaders did not take the decision lightly,” the statement said, noting that many had begun using the simplified name of the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The VDA thanked Frankfurt for the households so far and assessed that its offer to organize in 2021 was “very impressive”.

The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported that the VDA had decided to open a competition for new ideas after the number of presentations at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show had dropped significantly and some of the world’s major carmakers had given up.

The VDA is expected to make a decision on the new host of the fair in the coming weeks.
